Hopefully salvation for the Aviodrome, wishfull thinking for 2012

The latest news on the now bankrupt Aviodrome is to my knowledge: “A group of about 20 organizations, cultural funds, companies, individuals and the city of Lelystad has united in a collective to rescue the aviation theme park Aviodrome in Lelystad.” The collective wants to prevent the auction of the collection in February. The collective wants the earlier acquisition candidate, Libéma Group, to be able to operate the park. The acquisition failled before in the financing of buildings. They also want a public action for the rescue to get support from the society. The collective presents further information next week. “That would be this week. I have often reported on the great events in Aviodrome.  I really hope this collective succeeds and that not again the flying season is about the crisis and dissapearing Aviation due to the lack of financial support. Lets hope for a successful takeover and public action that causes the Aviodrome to persist and the remain of many aviation events in Lelystad. who knows, if the engines of the Connie are started ever again ..

The Aviodrome as Event location
Main reason given for the failure of the Aviodrome is the declining number of corporate Events last year. As a photographer, I have been to some of the corporate parties which have been given. I must say the atmosphere was fantastic and the location is certainly inspiring. See some impressions of this bellow which should confirm this. Hopefully these were not the last Events and I hope that any investors see the potential in these spaces, the beauty of the collection and of the centerpiece the Constellation.
My 2012 wish is therefore, keep it exsistance and let the Connie even fly again!

Dc-3 Dakota Fly-in Aviodrome 2006

Today I heard the tragic news that the Aviodrome filed for bankruptcy. Especially for the people who work for the organisation it is very sad certainly in these uncertain times. I wish the staff a lot of strength.
As a regular visitor, it is also a real loss. I often take a look in this unique museum and especially in the (aviation) events. I’ve already wrote about some of these events of the Aviodrome before, today I wanted to add the Dakota Fly-in of 2006.

After my last post about the absence of the Catalina from the Dutch airspace, I fear to also add the B-25 Mitchell on this list of “missing” aircraft. I’m talking about the B-25 of the Royal Air Force historical flight, or did he go again to the Duke of Brabant Air Force (DBAF)?

Militair Vliegspektakel Aviodrome Lelystad foto’s
